Accelerating the Green Hydrogen Economy

As the global energy transition accelerates, JSW Energy is advancing India’s energy security by expanding beyond conventional power into next-generation clean energy solutions. Green hydrogen plays a critical role in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, cement, shipping, and aviation, where direct electrification is limited. Produced through renewable-powered electrolysis, green hydrogen offers a low-emission alternative to fossil fuels and enables derivatives like green ammonia and green methanol for industrial and mobility applications.
JSW Energy has commissioned India’s largest commercial-scale green hydrogen facility at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, supplying 3,800 tonnes per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen to support low-carbon steelmaking at JSW Steel. Operating under the Government of India’s SIGHT programme and aligned with MNRE emission standards, the plant delivers well-to-gate emissions of less than 2 kg CO₂e per kg of hydrogen. As part of its long-term strategy, JSW Energy aims to scale production to 85,000–90,000 TPA by 2030, integrating renewable energy, storage, and hydrogen derivatives to build a future-ready clean energy ecosystem and accelerate India’s transition to a sustainable hydrogen economy.
